I have had the chance to use three different eyelid primers, and today I will be doing a review on all three!
First, eyelid primers are incredibly important. If you wear eyeshadow, you should be using some kind of a base on your eyelid. This base will help your eyeshadow last longer and prevent the eyeshadow from creasing on your lid. There are alternatives to using primer such as, dipping your brush in some water, and apply the eyeshadow wet, or you can use a cream base eyeshadow. I fully believe in my primers however, and now to them!
First up: Urban Decay Primer Potion, .37 ounces for $20, or .85 ounces for $30 Sephora.com
This is the new bottle they are selling it in, which disappoints me because I have yet to use it!!! The old bottle looked like this:
Now, the old applicator, I DISLIKED! It left a lot in the bottle, it was hard to use, it dried up, the tube was hard, etc. So now that it’s in a squeezable tube, I have to go get some! Overall, I would definitely recommend this product. The $30 tube is probably worth it, but primer lasts me forever, so I just buy the smaller version. (A little bit of this stuff goes a long way.) I got my little tube from the Book of Shadows IV, and I just recently ran out of it. It has a great consistency, blends in well, and doesn’t leave a sticky residue. It does it’s job of keeping my eyeshadow in place all day.
Next up: Too Faced Shadow Insurance, .35 ounces for $18 at Sephora.com
Now, this applicator I liked. It’s just a squeezable tube, like the new Primer Potion is. It is very similar in price to the Primer Potion, and it works just as well. I ended up liking this one more, but it had a lot to do with the application. I think it has lasted me longer than the Primer Potion, even though it has about the same amount. It rubs in clear, and is not sticky. This is the primer I have been using recently, and it keeps my eyeshadow in place all day.
Next up: ELF Eyelid Primer, .17 ounces for $1 at eyeslipsface.com
Again with the terrible applicator!! But you heard right, it costs only $1! I love this brand. The products they carry, for the prices, are absolutely amazing. I won’t buy everything from them, and their products are not the best of the best, but for the price, the quality is extremely good. The biggest difference I seen between the 3 primers are that the other two really keep the color, while this one, I had to apply a lot more eyeshadow to achieve the same results. However, this did keep my eyeshadow in place for most of the day, and is a great primer for those starting out in makeup, or those on a budget!
